Type-IN floats off in South Philly

Here’s the scoop, per the Philadelphia City Paper:

The reporter was quite polite and left out the part where some of the balloons and their letters got tangled in Christmas lights piteously, like something out of a Fritz Lang movie, except it was sunny out and nobody got upset or anything.

SOON TO BE A MAJOR MOTION PICTURE…

The Guardian reports that “The Other Typist” will become a movie. Keira Knightley has signed on.

Keira KnightleyUnclear if Knightley will play the protagonist/narrator Rose, or the new typist, Odalie, who shakes up the squad room with her Jazz-Age morals and mysterious past. Will Mavis Beacon appear in the credits? Will they get the machines correct? Will they use a hand double for the typing scenes? (Hey, Matt, break out the nail polish!)

(international typewriter day meets) Bike n’ Type ‘n Eat ? !

FLASH: Steven Huang, the organizer of the Foldie Foodie (a ride in which folder bike fans explore NYC eateries) has recently become a typewriter gee– , er, aficionado.  (Steven co-produced the recent Manhattan Type-IN)  He realized that there was a conflict, with one of his rides taking place on International Typewriter Day.  Thus, in an audacious, Solomonic, cross-technological move, Mr. H has hybridized his ride, so to speak, arranging to have typewriters at each of the restaurants the ride visits. When? Well, tomorrow, SUNDAY, June 23rd.

If you have a folder bike, like typing, or eating or all three (sequentially, not simultaneously!), this could be your cup of ramen.  Find out more here:   www.brommieyummie.com

I am 50% likely to come up from Philadelphia with my folder bike and a Lettera 22. Things like this don’t happen every day, y’know.

Last verse added…

Along a busy road and train tracks, he stands, tall and eternally startled...

Now you’ve heard the story / Just one one thing to do for me                                               Bring a Phillips-head at midnight / Counter-clockwise sets me free                                                                                  Let me walk until I break down /There’s so much out there to see.

— it seemed like this guy needed a break, and one morning, the end of the song popped up.

FLASH ! NBC Typewriter Piece to air tonight on “NBC Nightly News”

The producer who covered the Manhattan Type-IN has just sent us an email saying her story on the neo-typing/Populaire, etc., should air on tonight’s (Sun. May 5) NBC Nightly News. She cautioned that it could get bumped if the hockey game goes overtime, so go easy on the high-sticking, Bertrand!

cheers

Typewriter makes a cameo in future-funk vid by Janelle Monae

JANELLE

It’s only for a few seconds–but when the most funky folk on the planet got somethin’ to say, they break out a vintage desk top typewriter. Look sharp; they get that platen poppin’ around the 4:50 mark in JANELLE MONAE’S latest video.
