Can Analogitivity Be Taught?
So, a friend has a miniature academy called MindSpot, where Philadelphians (or those who can get to Philadelphia) learn about: Pencils, Scriptwriting, better iPhone photography and many other skills in one-session evening classes.
Have decided to offer Introduction to Analog Living, in which I will gather a series of “obsolete” items in one room and explain how they all could more or less make your life better if they were part of it again.
Tentative list:
Rolodex 500
Sony TC-D5 pro cassette deck
My First Sony Cassette Box
Olivetti Lettera 32
Olympia SM 9
Olympia SG-1
Nikon F4
Olympus XA
Lamy Safari Fountain Pen
Filofax Luxe, Personal
Polaroid SX-70
We will run through the operation of all these companions, without the aid of wi-fi or high-speed connections, then consider where and how to reintroduce said devices into every day life, and what to expect when they bump up against the virtual world.
While most typospherians may not need this sort of re-refresher course, you may know someone who would enjoy a survey-style experience; pass it along if you like.
Here’s a link, since there’s not enough time to send me an SASE, heh!
In other news — yes, there will be a Third Annual TYPE-IN in Philadelphia, early December–date/location TBA.

This bit of typing will cost you…
If you’re looking for some NaNoWriMo inspiration, check the estimated bids on this Steinbeck carbon!
BTW — have we got anyone throwing their “head into the ring” for Nano Typewriter Brigade–and–has anyone considered using a different typewriter per chapter/day/character — just to add to the chaos?

Typer-Spotting in Brooklyn…
This Underwood had a stereo pic jammed between the platen and the ribbon lifter… Not sure if it was a prop or just not priced yet.
This was at the DeKalb Market, a beautiful, doomed little food and shopping district made of shipping containers. A developer let them use the space, but now has a project and so the pie shops, crafters and vintage joints must be gone by the end of September.
How crazy would it be to have a Type-In there (they have a great little picnic space around the back) before the end?

Royal Sighting at the Beach
Sadly , this machine is a “Rapunzel” ; trapped in a home decor shop in Avalon’s posher neighbor, Stone Harbor.
Perhaps someday, she could weave her ribbon into a rope, allowing an admirer to climb over the transom and, inky- fingered, declare, “Yon lifeboat is but a toy– not thee. You were meant to put words upon alabaster sheets, giving substance to my silent whims… Let me lift thee ( oof-dah, she’s a heavy one!) and carry you to my writing shack”
Next morning, the puzzled owner of Shore de’Couer would scratch her head , wondering what had been there and left those four little square dents on the panel of the show window. Finally, she will give up and put a Taiwan- made replica of a milk can to fill the spot.
